![]() The price is 5.99 on Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store. There's also a fair few detective-style visual novel games (e.g Ace Attorney, 428 Shibuya Scramble, the Danganronpa series), but those have very different structures. The Case of the Golden Idol is getting three prequel cases on May 4 in an expansion, The Spider of Lanka. It's billed as a "hacking" game, but it's a lot more like snooping around someone's computer to find information rather than focusing on technical details. Announced during the pre-show of tonights Game Awards, The Rise Of The Golden Idol exists as little more than a brief teaser trailer right now, but to be honest, Im sold already. * Greyhat is a detective-style game I've really enjoyed, though it's a bit more puzzly rather than pure detective. Well, hello there, sequel to excellent detective game, The Case Of The Golden Idol, didnt expect to see you here. * Her Story and Telling lies are very pure detective games, but a lot more open ended - the idea is you search for a keyword, and you'll be able to view all the video clips containing that word, which gives you more ideas for words to search and whatnot, and then you piece together the mystery from there. The Case of the Golden Idol is a single-player game that follows the exploits of a detective who is attempting to solve 12 intriguing murders. But the big challenge is you can't just search for text, so you need to use tags and follow hyperlinks instead. * Hypnospace Outlaw scratches a lot of similar itches for me - the idea is you're exploring an alternate version of the 90s Internet as a moderator, trying to handle various modding cases. It has these beautiful 1-bit graphics, and you explore scenes in 3D to figure out what's happening (with similar freeze-frames to Golden Idol) * Obra Dinn is probably the closest analogue, though it's a bit less accessible in terms of difficulty too.
